H2 SUT offers owners the combined convenience of a truck and a sport utilty vehicle. When the driver has four passengers are onboard, the bulkhead at the rear of the passenger compartment remains upright. When it's cargo you're hauling, the rear window is powered into the Midgate, then the Midgate and rear seat fold forward to create a 4x6 foot pickup truck bed. The cargo bed has four tie-down provisions, each capable of holding 500 pounds. An optional locking, hard tonneau cover is available that keeps the cargo area clean and secure. Other accessories include bed rail cover inserts and a removable, locking cargo box.

The 2009 H2SUT is also more fuel-efficient than before, thanks to a Hydra-Matic 6L80 six-speed automatic transmission with tap-up/tap-down shifting and advanced technologies like variable valve timing (VVT). The new powertrain combination helps the H2 deliver an additional 1,500 pounds (680 kg) in towing capacity – an increase from 6,500 pounds (2,948 kg) to 8,000 pounds (3,629 kg).

With 393 hp and an immense 415 lb.-ft. of torque on tap, H2 SUV's new 6.2L Vortec V8 puts out roughly 20 percent more power than the previous engine. Hill climbs and highway passing are easier than ever, and the maximum trailer rating is now a whopping 3720 kg (8200 lb.).
